Prerequisites to Apply to the Dietetics Major

  1. Completion of all prerequisite courses with a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or above and completion of most of the JMU General Education requirements.
  2. Prerequisite courses that must be completed with a grade no lower than a "C" (2.0) prior to admission to the dietetics major include:
    • CHEM 131 - General Chemistry I
    • CHEM 131L - General Chemistry Lab
    • CHEM 132 - General Chemistry II
    • CHEM 132L - General Chemistry Lab
    • HTH 210 - Medical Terminology
    • BIO 270 - Human Physiology
    • POSC 225 - U.S. Government
    • PSYC 101 - General Psychology or PSYC 160 - Life Span Human Development
    • MATH 220 - Elementary Statistics
    • NUTR 280 - Nutrition for Wellness
    • NUTR 295 - Foundations of Nutrition Practice
    • SCOM 121 - Fundamental Human Communication: Presentations or SCOM 122 - Fundamental Human Communication: Individual Presentations or SCOM 123 - Fundamental Human Communication: Group Presentations
    • WRTC 103 – Critical Reading and Writing
  3. Equivalent coursework taken at other schools and AP or IB credit will be accepted.
